The Lagos State AIDS Control Agency says it has embarked on aggressive HIV counselling and testing to reduce the prevalence of the virus in the state.
The acting Chief Executive Officer of LSACA, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, said the agency had been going to hard-to-reach areas of the state to fight the virus and align with the call to end AIDS by 2030.
Ogboye, who spoke on Tuesday, said the HIV counselling and testing trucks had gone to Aiyetoro and Ebute Oluwo markets, in the Epe Local Government Area of the state.
He said, “At LSACA, we are determined to get to zero prevalence as an agency that is responsible for leading the response to HIV and AIDS in Lagos State.
“Our aggressive HIV counselling and testing in hard-to-reach areas of the state is nothing more than to reduce the prevalence rate.
“We are aligning with the call of President Muhammadu Buhari to end AIDS by 2030 and our movement to Aiyetoro and Ebute Oluwo markets was to get the residents and traders to achieve early detection and treatment of infected persons.”
He added that moving the mobile HCT truck to different parts of the state was a policy of the agency to aid early detection.
He said the programme was free, adding that other riverine areas would soon feel the impact of the agency.
