The Uyo - Akwa Ibom state outlet of the famous Senator, Ben Bruce-Murray founded Silverbird Cinemas, a subsidiary of the Silverbird Group, on the 10th day of January 2016, made a fast one on renowned movie maker, Okechukwu Oku, who paid them in full to use their outlet for the premiere of his highly anticipated comedy movie: THE BOSS IS MINE.

The Uyo premiere was slated to hold on the 10th of January after a superb outing in Enugu as it was first premiered in Genesis Cinemas in Enugu which recorded a massive success.

Iyanya tired of standing and chilling at a bar

Silverbird Cinemas, knowing fully well that such a prestigious event was slated for the 10th of January, made no efforts to put things in order before the event, because as at 4:00pm on that fateful day, there was a power outage at the outlet, with no single backup power supply system as it was further revealed that all their Generators, 4 of them, where all out of service and needed maintenance.

Guest were not smiling at all

Efforts to bring back power supply to the building proved abortive. A lot of people who came to view the movie were seen leaving angrily, while some who has already bought tickets demanded for a refund.

Special guests like the popular Nigerian artistes, Iyanya, Selebobo, popular Comedy actor, Imeh Bishop, the State's commissioner on arts and culture, Ini Akpabio and a host of other digniteries where all sad, disappointed and left when it was obvious that the Silverbird Cinemas - Uyo, has no positive response to the situation.

Around 8:45pm, when everyone has already left, they powered up the outlet and sarcastically asked the movie-maker, Okey Oku, to start up his movie premiere.

Instead of tendering an apology and looking for ways to calm the situation, the Silverbird Cinema handlers said that they owe nobody no apology, that the malfunction wasn't their fault but an act of God.

No one is smilling, as they were all dissapointed

People present at the outlet wondered how power outage with no form of backup and a set of 4 dead power generator system was an act of God.

Singer, Selebobo not smiling at all

THE BOSS IS MINE Movie maker, Okechukwu Oku, made a press release yesterday on the issue, read below;

"You may have been expectant and a bit curious as to why I haven’t done any post about The Boss is Mine movie  Uyo premiere which was scheduled for the 10th of January at Ibom Tropicana AkwaIbom.

Well after an amazing premiere in Enugu I and my team set out for Uyo the next day. We arrived at the venue and confirmed all was well and subsequently set up for Red carpet.

Dissaponted celebs and organizers
All intended guests arrived, Iyanya, Selebobo, Ime Bishop, Ini Akpabio, The commissioner for Tourism and a host of important dignitaries all present for an explosive event.

At about 4pm, Silverbird cinema power supply went off, a situation we believed a huge company like that could handle and are prepared for. To our greatest shock, this power outage last an hour, two, three and my guest got apprehensive.
We approached the management of Silverbird and was told their generator got damaged. I personally decided to visit the generator house to see this for myself and was perplexed to see 4 dead generators. I was made to understand they where waiting for their engineer to come.

We waited till about 8:30pm then my guests started leaving. Shortly after the engineers arrival the generator powered on. Silverbird management was insensitive to the damage they were causing us as they were busy running their own business, wondering how possible that was as one of their screens was working and tickets were selling.
I want to use this time to say that Silverbird will not go scot free after messing up my company’s pedigree,  shaming my esteemed guest and causing us massive financial loss. We will not let this issue stride.

My sincere apologies to all who travelled from many parts of the country to attend this premiere. We will do our best to stop Nigerian business practitioners from getting away with mishaps like this. THE BOSS IS MINE is a great movie and we will not let this kill the already growing love for it.

GOD BLESS YOU "
