It’s early September somewhere in Lagos, at the Larrikin
Studios packed with Mcs and
Producers with the speakers on blast, undoubtedly a hiphop arena while the
teamSteeveBars crew are getting set for the release of the much-awaited mixtape “Tales
Of BarsLofton (E.P)” from the wordsmith [@SteeveBars]. The underground credibility
of the rapper has soared high enough to get him on the list of Hip Hop Rappers and
producers to watch out for on many online avenues. Having rubbed shoulders with other
players in the game, the Mc is confident of the quality of materials coming out, stating in
an iterview “sometimes the only thing you can do is to do it right and I think its high time
we gave the true lover of the genre some good stuff to chew on” says the Mc.
@SteeveBars, born Idowu Steven .A. is from Ogbomoso, Oyo state. He’s been rapping
for close to a decade and his sounds are still fresh like that of a newborn.
“Tales Of BarsLofton (EP)” is a reflection of the rappers journey so far, having recorded
over 60 songs for the mixtape, only 20 tracks were deemed fit for the extended play
project.

hiphop beats acompained with melancholic pianos to local tunes as well as deep rooted
bars lyrically, boasting of productions from Blaq Jerzee, Kraftmatics, Word, Natho, Don
adah, PooBoy, StouteLouis and Abounce. “Tales of BarsLofton (EP)” is one of the best
hiphop mixtapes the music industry has recorded this year so far.
With the help of singer and songwriter Klem on the PooBoy produced “Cut Rope”,
@SteeveBars expresses his soft side reenacting his love for an anonymous lady with
witty lines, witty enough to make Cleopatra crack a smile and giggle for a sec. The rapper
was rebellious on couple of records like the DonAdah Produced “Be what you wanna be
ft legendary C-Mion” venting about how he’s been doing it for years without getting the
recognition he deserves.
Also on the Kraftmatics laised joint “can’t say goodbye” with the help of a sampled hook,
he raps about not being able to catch up with some things in life.. Which in other words
means gone!
@SteeveBars is no doubt a true Mc with incredible storytelling abilities on a track like
“Tell a N***a [gunyan mi kere]” rapping about an unfortunate ordeal in 2014.
storytelling is quite uncommon these days amidst rappers probably because of the lack of
subject matter. Obviously you can tell he is not from this era of skinny jeans rap and all
that falls within.
“Tales Of BarsLofton (EP)” is a proof that @SteeveBars is just getting started, and also a
blessing and a plus to the #realrap #realhiphop proponents working hard to resurrect the
dead culture of real hiphop elements such as wordplays, metaphoric bars and punch line
droppings. With no doubt, “Tales of BarsLofton (EP)” is a project to f**k with and also
looking like a masterpiece for Nigerian hiphop. But I guess we’ll let the listeners make
their own opinion of the much-awaited project The “TALES OF BARSLOFTON (EP)”.
