Scene of the incident

According to the Vanguard, a policeman died in the course of his duty in a motor accident opposite Fatgbems Filling Station, along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway at about 9a.m, yesterday, 26th of August.

The victim was attached to the Orile Division of the Nigerian Police. The bloody incident occurred when a defaulting commercial vehicle driver refused to stop on his order which is almost a norm among commercial drivers in Lagos state.

The policeman forcefully hopped into the moving bus with number plate KJA305XL, but the driver refused to stop the vehicle and accidentally he hit another Honda car with the number plates, LND340DF.

The impact caused the policeman who wasn't properly positioned in the vehicle to fall on the road and a moving trailer climbed over him leading to his instant death. The bus driver and the conductor took to their heels at the sight of his dead body.

Vanguard gathered that the driver of the car, which the bus driver hit, was traveling for his father’s burial when he incident occurred.

Operatives of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, LASTMA, and policemen from Trinity and Orile Divisions were there to ensure free flow of traffic as onlookers besieged the area.

A passenger in the bus, Rotimi Baki, said: “The policeman jumped into the commercial bus while the bus was moving and picking passengers at the bus stop.

“All of a sudden, the commercial bus driver braked and the policeman fell off and a truck coming from behind hit him. The vehicle in front of the commercial bus had stopped. So the bus driver did same.”
Later, officers from the Trinity Police Division took the corpse of the Policemen to Orile Police Station and later to Mainland Hospital Mortuary, Yaba.
